The Ocean Room announces closure after 'battling' to stay open

The owners of a popular seaside nightclub in Norfolk have announced its closure after running it for 50 years.

The Ocean Room in Gorleston-on-Sea has been run by three generations of the same family since the mid 1970s.

A spokesperson said: "It is with a heavy heart that we announce that The Ocean Room will cease trading with immediate effect.

"We have been battling to keep this amazing venue open though some extremely difficult times."

The building originally opened as the Floral Hall in 1939.

In 2020, Rag'n'Bone Man surprised about 600 people at the venue when he appeared as the mystery guest at a gig line-up of local acts.

The hip-hop bluesman turned up at the Ocean Room as a favour to his father Tony Graham, who lives in the Norfolk town.

Blur also appeared at the venue as part of their seaside tour in 1995.

The venue spokesperson added "we just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us across the years and created so many incredible memories".
