Witnesses said the roof at the Haven Bridge Pub in Great Yarmouth had collapsed

A bridge is due to be closed for most of the day after a fire at a disused pub.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to Haven Bridge, near the River Yare in Great Yarmouth, just after 20:00 GMT on Wednesday.

Witnesses said the roof had collapsed and police were warning people to stay away while crews tackled the fire.

"Several appliances" were at the scene and the fire was brought under control by 22:30 GMT, the fire service said.

In a tweet, bus operators First Bus said the bridge was expected to be closed for most of Thursday and buses would be diverted over Breydon Bridge in both directions.

Passengers should expect delays to all Great Yarmouth services during peak times, it said.
