Flooding in London: Heavy rain causes travel disruption

Heavy rainfall overnight led to rush-hour travel disruption across London, with many closures and delays on roads and rail routes.

Sections of the A41, M25 and A1 in north London were blocked, as well as part of the A40 at Old Oak Common.

Flooding and signal failures also affected several Tube lines, causing disruption across the network.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) said it was called to about 45 flooding-related incidents overnight.

These included flooded properties and rescuing people who were stranded in cars, the brigade said.

A section of the Shepperton line run by South Western Railway was closed between Fulwell and Hampton on Thursday morning due to flooding, but has since reopened.

Several stations were also affected by deep surface water, with Turnham Green and Dagenham Heathway Underground stations both being shut for a time on Thursday morning.

There were numerous delays across the Tube network during the morning rush hour due to signal failures, a fire alert and the severe weather.

Services on the District line were suspended between Turnham Green and Richmond due to flooding at Richmond, while the Bakerloo line was closed between Queen's Park and Harrow and Wealdstone due to a signal failure at Harlesden.

No trains were also running between Sydenham and West Croydon because of a signal failure at West Croydon.
