Southsea Model Village smashed up by vandals

Vandals have smashed up a model village in Hampshire and caused £1,000 worth of damage.

Buildings in Southsea Model Village have been destroyed in the incident, which happened at about 18:25 GMT on Sunday.

In a post on the village Facebook page, a statement said the vandals had "done a lot of damage".

It comes after the village introduced extra security measures following a spate of vandalism incidents in 2021.

CCTV footage from the night shows two boys, with their faces covered, entering the village and kicking structures on the ground.

Images published by the village staff show a CCTV camera pulled off the wall, doors ripped off model buildings and a miniature bridge torn out of the ground.

In the statement, a village spokesperson said the vandals climbed over a 15ft (4.5m) wall and removed spiking on top of the wall to gain access.

The post said: "They were wearing pretty distinctive clothing so hopefully someone will be able to recognise them.

"As you can see they have done a lot of damage and need to be caught and pay for what they have done. Not what we need just before Christmas."

Southsea Model Village is appealing to members of the public, in the surrounding area, for information and to check their door bell camera footage.

A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary said it received reports of two teenage boys breaking into Southsea Model Village and causing about £1,000 worth of damage.

The force is investigating the incident and urged anyone with information to get in touch.
