Concerns over delays in Gloucestershire car charging points

It could take 12 years for Gloucestershire County Council to install its planned 1,000 electric vehicle charging (EV) points, councillors have warned.

Liberal Democrat councillors says the authority will not hit their own target until 2034 at their current rate.

The target for the rollout is 2025, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The council said it was prioritising collaborating with the community.

Environment and planning cabinet member David Gray said the first 130 EV charging points will go live in the coming weeks on residential streets across Gloucestershire.

"Our priority in rolling these out i,s to work collaboratively with communities to ensure the chargers are installed where they are wanted and needed," he said.

But the Lib Dems say the council aims to have these 130 sites by March next year, which means it will have taken 608 days to install them.

Data from the Department for Transport show that Gloucestershire has some of the lowest numbers of EV charging points in the entire country.
