Roadworks start in Matlock as part of transport hub revamp

Roadworks are expected to last four weeks on a Derbyshire road to improve bus access as part of a transport improvement scheme.

The county council will be "removing the lay-by" in Bakewell Road, at Matlock bus station and taxi rank, as part of the works, Derbyshire Dales District Council says.

The work will create more space and will allow two buses to pull up, according to the county council.

A new kerb will also be installed.

This will prevent issues with multiple buses being unable to fit fully in the lay-by, obstructing traffic, the district council says.

The higher kerb will also make boarding buses easier for passengers.

During the work, which started on Tuesday, there will be disruption to bus timetables, with some stops being switched to the Rail Interchange.

Changes to the bus station exit on to Bakewell Road will also be carried out during the project's final week.

The changes are the latest phase of a project to revamp in and around the transport hub.

Work already carried out includes a deep clean of the bus station, the installation of new timber railway sleepers, planting new trees, and laying golden gravel west of the bus station exit and in front of Spa Villas car park.

The installation of new windows and seating for the passenger waiting area is also planned.
