Hockley Circus shooting: Boy, 13, in 'critical' condition

A 13-year-old boy is in a critical condition after being shot in the back close to a busy flyover.

It is understood he was walking down Hockley Circus in Birmingham shortly before 19:00 GMT on Thursday when attacked, West Midlands Police said.

The boy is believed to have suffered life-changing injuries, the force added, and remains in hospital.

An area around the underpass was closed as officers carried out a forensic examination of the scene.

Shop worker Sunny Singh said he heard a "big bang" before a man came in running.

Mr Singh stated: "I think he must be involved, know something or knew something about it.

"He come running, he says like he 'want to hide'.

"I said 'well you can't hide', put my shop at risk, so he leave my shop and he jumped on a bus and he went somewhere. After that... all the police came."

Officers have issued an urgent appeal for anyone in the area with information to come forward.

West Midlands Police said it was a busy location with a lot of motorists. It is asking for anyone with dashcams to check their footage.
