Building fire that closed busy road 'accidental'
BBCA severe building fire that left one person in hospital was started accidentally, a fire service has said.
The blaze on the fourth floor of a five-storey building in Constitution Hill in Hockley, Birmingham, broke out just before 07:30 GMT on Friday.
West Midlands Fire Service tackled the fire for more than eight hours and had successfully dampened the fire by about 15:50 GMT, before attending overnight.
Constitution Hill was closed in both directions due to electrical work taking place, but it has since reopened.
Two budgies were also rescued from the fire, the service said, after they were found "alive and well" in a cage in an unaffected part of the building.
The birds have since been reunited with their owner, West Midlands Fire Service added.
