Cat's leg amputated after Milton Keynes bin lorry trip

A cat had to have his leg amputated after riding in a refuse collection vehicle from an unknown location.

Stig was found at a rubbish depot in Milton Keynes and it was believed he travelled there via bin lorry from one of the London boroughs.

The RSPCA said it was not possible to identify where exactly he was picked up or if he was discarded intentionally.

Staff at the depot brought the injured cat to the charity's Milton Keynes and North Buckinghamshire branch.

The charity said Stig had suffered a severe injury to one of his legs and it had to be cut off.

"Whether this injury was a result of being in a vehicle capable of crushing items to 90% of their original size, or the very reason he was dumped, we will never know," said an RSPCA spokesperson.

The black cat had no unique markings and was not microchipped so the charity said it was "unlikely" his owner would ever be identified.

They urged owners to get their cats chipped so future lost pets could be reunited with their owners.
