Many structures in Heworth were torched by vandals, with the site now targeted more than 100 times.

A councillor says he could not emphasise enough "how bad" the proposal for the site near York was.

Greg Marshall, 35, died from multiple stabs wounds to his neck, chest and abdomen on 17 August.

The houses would be built east of Heworth, about a mile from York city centre, developers say.
