Wayne Reid was found dead at an address in Society Court in Coleraine

A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a 43-year-old man in Coleraine, County Londonderry.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland has named him as Wayne Reid.

Officers and the ambulance service went to an property in Society Court following a report received at 11:30 GMT on Monday.

A man, 33, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Reid was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe he may have been involved in an altercation, sometime between Thursday 8 January and Saturday 10 January, in Society Court or Society Street.

Det Ch Insp Hazel Miller said: "My thoughts are firmly with Mr Reid's family and loved ones, as they try to come to terms with their loss.

"Detectives are working at pace to establish the exact circumstances surrounding Mr Reid's death and I am appealing for anyone with information that could assist our investigation to come forward."

A funeral notice said he had ties to Scotland and was a father of one.
