Post Office services will resume on an interim basis at Halesworth Town Council in The Old Courthouse

A Post Office will be temporarily reinstated in a town which lost its branch three months ago.

The service in Halesworth closed in October when the hardware store it was in, on The Thoroughfare, ceased trading.

While a permanent solution is sought, the service will resume on an interim basis at Halesworth Town Council in The Old Courthouse.

Wendy Hamilton, Post Office area change manager, said: "We know how important a Post Office is to a community and we are delighted to be restoring a temporary branch in the town centre while we continue to look for a permanent solution."

The Post Office was previously inside two Coopers stores, in Halesworth and Leiston, which both closed

The Post Office also had a counter service inside the Coopers store in Leiston, which also closed.

East Suffolk Council wrote to Hamilton outlining the impact the closures would have on vital services and social isolation for some customers.

Currently, the nearest alternative branch is in Peasenhall.

The Post Office had announced that a new "drop and collect" service would open in Leiston, but it then confirmed that would not be happening.

The new service in Halesworth will be open for more than 37 hours, Monday to Friday at 09:00-13:00 and 13:30-17:00.
