Volunteers sought for town's anniversary celebrations

Volunteers are needed to help promote an East Yorkshire town's 200-year anniversary.

Goole received its charter as a port in 1826, paving the way for the town's rapid expansion.

HEY! Volunteering, whose members are known for their distinctive sky blue jackets, said it is looking for people to support events marking the town's bicentenary in 2026.

Councillor Nick Coultish, culture, leisure and tourism lead at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said celebrations - yet to be revealed - would "showcase the very best of our rich culture and community".

He added: ''We hope to see many people from the Goole area sign up to this wonderful opportunity."

HEY! Volunteering is supported by tourism body Visit Hull and East Yorkshire (VHEY).

The volunteering project launched during Hull's UK City of Culture celebrations in 2017, giving local people the opportunity to support local arts, culture and heritage events.

In Goole, volunteers have supported Music in the Park, the town's Bonfire Night celebrations and the Civic Society's Hobbies Exhibition Fair.
