An 18-year-old has been arrested after a teenager was seriously injured in a crash between an e-bike and a car.

Cleveland Police said the collision, which involved a Surron electric bike and a BMW, happened at about 19:25 GMT on Newport Road in Middlesbrough on Friday.

A 14-year-old travelling on the bike suffered a bleed to the brain and was taken to James Cook University Hospital, then transferred to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary.

Cleveland Police said the other bike rider suffered fractures to both legs and was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving without a licence, no insurance, driving under the influence and possession of an offensive weapon.

The woman driving the BMW was checked over by paramedics and taken to hospital suffering with bruising and shock.
