Det Insp Will Denton said: "I want to reassure residents that serious sexual crimes are treated as absolute priority offences, and all necessary resources are being employed to investigate what took place.
"As the offence itself took place on university grounds, we are speaking with partners at the University of Huddersfield and continuing to conduct some enquiries there today. Officers will also be working to reassure students."
