Police are asking women to show officers areas where they felt unsafe in Camborne and Redruth

Women have been invited to show police officers areas of towns which make them feel unsafe, as part of efforts to improve safety.

Devon and Cornwall Police has invited women aged 18 and over to join officers for a 30-minute "Walk and Talk" in Redruth and Camborne.

Sgt Alice McKinnon, leading the initiative, said she wanted to learn about issues such as poor lighting or anti-social behaviour so officers could work with partners, including the council, to resolve them.

She said she hoped the scheme would make "lasting, sustainable and meaningful change... to make our spaces safer for everyone".

The Walk and Talk initiative was launched by London's Metropolitan Police Service in 2021 following the kidnap and killing of Sarah Everard, a case which sparked a debate about women's safety.

McKinnon said: "The safety of women and girls remains an absolute priority for us."

Women are asked to email: [email protected] if they would like to take part.
