Police received multiple emergency calls after the car was spotted on the M6 Toll road

Police said they received "multiple reports" after a vehicle was spotted going the wrong way down a motorway.

Following the 999 calls reporting a car heading southbound on the northbound carriageway of the M6 Toll, police were deployed to the scene.

The Operational Police Unit (OPU) Warwickshire said officers located the car just south of junction 9 of the M42.

Police "used tactical contact to bring the vehicle to a safe stop with no injuries and preventing any collisions with members of the public", it said.

The force added: "We'd like to thank everyone who called us about this incident enabling us to bring it to a safe conclusion."

Staffordshire Road Crime Team was sent to intercept the vehicle alongside OPU Warwickshire.
