About 70,000 burgundy bins will be distributed to households in North Lincolnshire

The first of 70,000 new larger recycling bins will be distributed to residents in North Lincolnshire early in the new year, the council said.

The new 240-litre burgundy bins are part of efforts to introduce "a one-bin-for-all-recycling" system.

Currently, residents in the district have to put glass and tins into a separate container, but with the new system, due to be introduced in April, all plastic, metal, glass, card and paper will be able to go in one bin.

Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: "This is about making everyday services simpler while helping people recycle more with less hassle."

Waltham described the move as "another big step forward", adding: "We're improving recycling, keeping garden waste collections free, and making sure the new service works for every household."

The authority said the new bins had been fully funded by the Department for Environment, at no extra cost to local taxpayers.

Residents who preferred to keep their current recycling container could also opt out through a simple online form.

A free weekly garden and food waste collection in one bin will also be introduced, with a fortnightly general waste collection for anything that cannot be recycled continuing as before.

Neil Poole, the council's deputy leader, said: "We're getting ahead and getting ready.

"By securing UK-manufactured bins now, we're supporting British industry and making sure residents are prepared well before the new system begins in April 2026.

"We are helping every household in North Lincolnshire recycle, simply," he added.
