Appeal after train hits objects on tracks

Police have thanked people for sharing a CCTV appeal after a freight train crashed into objects that had been put on the track.

British Transport Police said a man had trespassed near Spring Bank West, Hull, on 19 July and put metal items, including railway signalling equipment, on the tracks shortly after 05:30 BST.

In the appeal issued on Monday, the force said a freight train later struck the items, "causing severe damage and bringing the train to a standstill".

The force shared an image of a man officers wanted to speak to, but has now said it is no longer appealing to identify him.
