Fire leaves derelict building at risk of collapse
Dan JessupFire crews have been battling a fire which broke out in a property in East Sussex, leaving it at risk of collapse.
Firefighters were called to the derelict building in Ashburnham Road, Eastbourne, at 16:55 GMT on Thursday.
East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service (ESFRS) urged residents to keep doors and windows closed and asked others to avoid the area.
It said it was making "steady progress" fighting the flames, adding: "The derelict building has been badly damaged and there is a risk that some of it will collapse."
Firefighters are expected to remain at the scene overnight, said ESFRS.
"There are strong winds and crews worked hard to stop the fire spreading to neighbouring properties," said a spokesperson.
"The road may need to stay closed during the morning rush hour and so we urge motorists to plan ahead and find alternative routes.
"There are no reports of injuries and the cause of the fire is not known."
