A town's library has been closed following a break-in, a council said.

Rushden Library, on Newton Road, was broken into between 20:00 GMT on Wednesday and 06:00 on Thursday by an "unknown offender", Northamptonshire Police said.

"It is unclear what has been stolen at this point," the force added.

North Northamptonshire Council, which owns and manages the library, said the service remained shut while investigations and a clear-up took place and it hoped to reopen as soon as possible.
