A League One football club has announced a one-off change to its matchday kit following a "fantastic gesture" by its usual shirt sponsor.

Northampton Town said the University of Northampton had "donated" its space on the club's shirt to the Northampton Town Community Trust for Saturday's home match against Burton Albion.

The university's 13-year continuous sponsorship of the shirts will be broken as part of the Cobblers' community day fixture and marks the 25th anniversary of its community trust.

The club's chief executive, James Whiting, said the day would "pay tribute to some of the fantastic work" done by the trust.

Phill Smith, the CEO of the Northampton Town Community Trust added: "We continue to help thousands of people across Northamptonshire in so many different ways.

"We are looking forward to welcoming a number of our participants to the Burton Albion game and to using these very special match shirts to help raise funds to support our work, which is so wonderfully supported by the University of Northampton."

Supporters will be given the opportunity to bid for the special match-worn shirts after the game, with profits going to the Northampton Town Community Trust.

Saturday's tie, is Northampton's first since sacking manager Kevin Nolan after winning only one of their previous 16 league games.
