An ex-councillor who sent abusive social media messages to a former MP has been handed a restraining order and a fine.

Peter Little, 41, sent two Facebook messages to Baroness Hayman in March, which were of a "grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character", Carlisle magistrates had heard.

In 2021, he was jailed for 18 weeks after sending a "grossly offensive" and threatening email to the former chief executive of Allerdale Borough Council, in which he threatened him and the then Tory MP for Workington Mark Jenkinson.

Little, of Grasmere Terrace, Maryport, was fined £120 and given a restraining order against Baroness Hayman at Carlisle Magistrates' Court.

He was also handed a community order and ordered to do a rehabilitation activity.

Baroness Hayman was the first female to represent a Cumbria constituency and served as Labour MP for Workington from 2015 to 2019.

Little served as an independent councillor on the former Allerdale Borough Council, which was abolished in 2023 with its services and responsibilities transferred to Cumberland Council.

In 2021, he was also given a suspended sentence after admitting two other charges, which included verbally abusing and threatening his neighbours and subjected female police officers to homophobic abuse.
