Thames Valley Police said the young woman remains in hospital with critical injuries

A teenage motorcycle pillion passenger has suffered life-threatening injuries in a three-vehicle motorway crash.

It happened on the London-bound carriageway of the M40 in Buckinghamshire - between junction four for High Wycombe and junction three for Loudwater - at about 20:40 GMT on Saturday.

Thames Valley Police said a grey motorcycle, a black Volkswagen Polo and a blue Hyundai Tucson were involved and the force has appealed for witnesses.

The motorcycle rider, a man aged 20 from Maidenhead, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and remained in police custody.

The woman, in her late teens, remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Police said both car drivers were helping with their investigation.

Officers have urged anyone driving on the M40 or the Handy Cross roundabout at the time to check their dashcam footage.
