The fire broke out on Saturday morning

A caravan has been destroyed in an arson attack in a County Down village.

The fire at a caravan park on the Ballywalter Road in Millisle was reported to police at about 02:00 GMT on Saturday.

No one was injured in the blaze, and it was extinguished before it could spread.

Police said it is believed the ignition was deliberate and have asked anyone with information or footage to contact them.

Ulster Unionist Party councillor Peter Wray told BBC News NI that the attack was an "upsetting" act of violence, which was appalling at any time but particularly in the run up to Christmas.

He said the community did not want acts like this happening in their area, and urged anyone with information to contact police.
