Forty firefighters from across the north west are tackling a fire in farm shed on the outskirts of Londonderry.

The Racecourse Road in Ballyarnett, near Shantallow, remains closed on Thursday between the Alder Road and Ballyarnett village junctions.

The fire is centred in a group of large sheds behind a house in the rural area, not far from the border with Donegal in the Republic of Ireland.

There are no reports of injuries.

Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) Group Commander Barry Sands said crews had been deployed from Derry, Strabane, Limavady, Dungannon and Kilrea.

"At this stage, we cannot speculate about a cause," he said.

"All we can say is that the fire broke out and spread through a number of large sheds."

Residents have been advised to keep their doors and windows closed.
