A former radio DJ charged with more than 30 offences, including rape and alleged sex offences against children, has died.

Brian Shuttlewood hosted rock'n'roll shows on BBC Radio Leicester from 1978 to 1995. He was also known as The Big Bopper.

Shuttlewood, 79, from Newhall, Derbyshire, pleaded not guilty to the alleged offences, which included several counts of rape, indecent assault and gross indecency, and are said to have taken place between 1972 and 1990, according to court documents.

Leicester Crown Court confirmed the case had been discontinued as Shuttlewood had died.

Shuttlewood was due to stand trial on 5 April 2027. At a previous hearing, the court heard he had advanced prostate cancer.

The charges related to four individuals, whose identities are automatically protected by law.
