A 33-year-old father has died 10 days after a crash between two cars on Christmas Eve.

Stephen Jones, 33, from Bootle, was driving his partner, 34, and son, 8, when his car was in collision with an Audi in Croxteth, Liverpool, at the junction between East Lancashire Road and Stonebridge Lane, just before 20:40 GMT.

The 32-year-old driver of the Audi was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs. He remains on bail.

In a tribute, Stephen's family said: "Stephen was a loving son, brother, partner and uncle but most importantly a dad, a role that meant the world to him."

'Loved forever'

Jones died on Saturday, while his partner remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital, Merseyside Police say. His family said he would be "missed deeply".

The tribute from the family added: "A friend and a lifelong Everton supporter who was filled to his core with a passion to help people.

"His love for coaching children's grassroots football meant he made a difference in so many lives. Stephen's death will leave a void for many people that won't ever be filled."

They added: "He will be loved forever and always in our hearts."

Det Sgt Simon Duffy thanked those who stopped at the scene and provided first aid.

The force is appealing for witnesses or those with dashcam footage to come forward.
