A road in West Sussex remains closed due to floodwater as the area experiences further heavy rainfall.

The A29 Shripney Road has been closed at the Saltbox Roundabout in Bersted since Monday because of "exceptionally high water levels".

Part of the county, including Bersted, is covered by a Met Office yellow warning for rain throughout Thursday.

Multiple flood alerts are in place in the county, including for the nearby Aldingbourne Rife, and two flood warnings were issued near Pulborough and Fittleworth.

Shripney Road reopened on 29 January after an earlier closure, but shut again four days later.

West Sussex Highways said using tankers to remove water "would not help" as water would "flow straight back into the already full rife".

Surface water from surrounding land was "continuing to flood the road faster than it can be cleared", the council department said.

The Met Office said there was "some heavy showers around" in the area covered by its warning and "some low impact surface water flooding is probable".
