A man and a woman have been taken to hospital after a house fire.

Firefighters were called to Ansty Road, Coventry, at 07:55 GMT on Monday.

"They arrived to discover a fire in the first-floor bedroom of the property," a spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) said.

The pair were treated by firefighters at the scene after breathing in smoke and taken to hospital as a precaution, while neighbouring homes were also evacuated and checked for signs of fire spreading.

The fire, which was brought under control by 08:37 GMT, was believed to have started accidentally, the WMFS spokesperson added.
