Detectives investigating the murder of a 26-year-old man who was shot at a tower block in Motherwell have issued a fresh appeal for information.

Jordan Gray's body was found in a flat in Shields Court in the Lanarkshire town on 15 December.

Police Scotland said a post-mortem examination revealed that he suffered fatal injuries "consistent with being shot by a firearm".

The force appealed for help from the local community, on the day that would have been Mr Gray's 27th birthday.

Det Supt Grant Hendry said: "We are focused on getting answers for Jordan's family and tracing who is responsible for his death.

"Saturday 27 December would have been Jordan's birthday. It's an extremely difficult time for his family.

"They're being supported by specialist officers and have requested their privacy is respected."

Mr Gray's mother, Lynn Gray, and father, John Lindsay, said the family was "devastated" over his death.

Police Scotland said a dedicated team of major investigation and local officers were working on the case.

Officers are trying to trace a person seen at Shields Court at about 22:35 on Sunday December 14 - the day before Mr Gray's body was found.

Det Supt Hendry added: "While we're conducting CCTV and forensic investigations, I would like to appeal directly to the compassion of the community.

"Anyone with information on this person is urged to contact the investigation team."
