An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a 79-year-old man in a West Yorkshire town.

The man was assaulted on Aberford Road in Garforth at about 18:35 GMT on Wednesday, West Yorkshire Police said.

He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A force spokesperson said the 18-year-old suspect remained in police custody and detectives were carrying out "extensive enquiries" into the circumstances of the death. They asked anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch.
