Several buildings in Baxter Gate, Loughborough, were evacuated as a precaution

A man has been arrested after buildings were evacuated when a "potentially hazardous substance" was found inside a restaurant.

Police, firefighters and the ambulance services were called to Baxter Gate, Loughborough, Leicestershire, just after 13:00 GMT on Wednesday.

Following initial testing, Leicestershire Police said in an updated statement the substance was "believed to be salt" and the original report had been made in good faith.

On Thursday, the force confirmed a 29-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of "communicating information regarding a noxious substance - hoax", and had since been released on bail.

He was also held on suspicion of "sending a letter/communication/article conveying an indecent/offensive message", the force added.
