Body found in search for missing student

A body has been found following extensive searches for a Loughborough University student who was reported missing.

Leicestershire Police said Aryan Sharma, 20, was last seen on CCTV in Meadow Lane, on the outskirts of Loughborough, at about 00:30 GMT on 22 November.

The force said officers were deployed on Sunday following a report a body had been seen in the River Soar in Normanton on Soar.

Following a search of the river, a body was located. The force added although formal identification was yet to take place, it was believed to be Aryan.

His parents, who live in London, previously issued a direct appeal to help find him.

Police said specialist officers had been continuing to provide support to his family, who have asked for privacy.

Officers said a file would be prepared for the coroner.
