The main public toilets in Loughborough town centre are set to undergo a major refurbishment.

Charnwood Borough Council said the facilities in Market Yard had "reached the end" of their life and were becoming difficult to keep in a hygienic state.

Officials said the building would be stripped out and renewed.

The authority's cabinet is set to approve the £300,000 project at a meeting on Thursday.

A report to the cabinet said: "The public toilets located in Market Yard provide an important facility for visitors to the town centre and are well used and appreciated.

"However, the current state of repair means that they are difficult to maintain hygienically and require frequent repair.

"The works will see the entirety of the building stripped out and renewed, ranging from wall coverings, floor coverings, and sanitaryware to replacement of the roof and replacement of all mechanical and electrical aspects."

The council said alternative toilets would be available in nearby Loughborough Town Hall while the refurbishment took place.

Work is set to start in early 2026, the authority added.
