Museum to celebrate Albion's 125th anniversary
Brighton MuseumFans of Brighton & Hove Albion are being given an opportunity to delve into the club's history thanks to a new exhibition.
Albion, which was founded on 24 June 1901, at the Seven Stars pub in Ship Street, is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.
Brighton & Hove Museums say a permanent exhibition will feature the club's journey from its inception to the present day.
Nigel Summers, chairman of Albion's Supporters' Club, said: "I am really excited about the museum display as it will pay tribute to the Seagull's history, its ups and downs and its triumphs."
Summers added one of the reasons for the Seagull's enduring popularity is due to its "strong community connections".
"The club has many initiatives, including Brighton and Hove Foundation, which supports people through sport," he said.
"Additionally, the Amex stadium being easily accessible makes fans feel more connected to their club."
Summers added that many youngsters in Brighton were wearing the Albion shirt, which makes him feel "very proud" of the club's continuing success.
Nigel SummersThe exhibition will feature historic objects, fan memories, and audio-visual installations of Albion's past, present and future.
Hedley Swain, chief executive of Brighton & Hove Museums, said: "The exhibition celebrates the passion of supporters, the resilience of the club, and the extraordinary journey that has brought Albion to where it is today."
The display is due to open on 15 August at the Brighton Museum & Art Gallery.
One of the club's enduring memories is reaching the final of the 1983 FA Cup when they faced Manchester United.
The initial match finished in a thrilling 2-2 draw with Albion missing a golden opportunity to seal victory.
The match was replayed but United cruised to a comprehensive 4-0 win.
The Seagulls were promoted to the Premier League in 2017 and have remained in the top flight ever since.
