Town to get £20m for 10-year regeneration push
BBCA town is to receive £20m in an effort to improve facilities and provide better opportunities for residents.
Darlington is one of 75 places to receive money from the government's Pride in Place programme to be spent over the next 10 years.
Council officers have selected five "left-behind" areas to benefit from the funding - Bank Top, Branksome, Northgate, Red Hall and Skerne Park.
Darlington Borough Council said it had spoken to more than 2,000 residents to find out what could be improved, including increased youth services, more police and community wardens, better community spaces, and additional services for disabled people.
A draft vision created by the authority said any schemes would aim to "support community wellbeing" and ensure "every neighbourhood is a great place to live".
A neighbourhood board has been established, involving residents, businesses and other organisations, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
It will have responsibility for developing a 10-year regeneration plan.
In Branksome, the initiative will aim to improve the provision of youth services, with new community centres planned for Northgate and Red Hall.
Darlington was selected as one of 75 areas across the UK to benefit from the government programme, which is aimed at revitalising communities that have faced long-term challenges.
