Coll had been a base for Project Trust for decades

Residents on the Isle of Coll are developing plans for a community buyout of an international volunteering charity's former base.

Ballyhaugh, a converted farmhouse, had been Project Trust's headquarters for decades, but it recently moved its operations to the mainland where many of its 18 staff work remotely.

A steering group has been set up to purchase the building and surrounding land, which have been put on the market for £755,000.

Project Trust said it was supportive of any initiative that could use its former assets for the benefit of the community.

The charity has had a link to Coll since the 1970s.

The steering group said community ownership would allow the building to continue supporting jobs on the island.

Co-chair Rhona Smith said potential uses included affordable accommodation, a care home or as a venue.

She said it was important the future use of the site addressed key community needs and helped to provide jobs and prosperity.
