Fire crews warned motorists not to drive through flood water

A driver has been rescued by firefighters after their car became stuck in flood water in a North Yorkshire village.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said six crews were sent to Ox Moor Lane in Cattal, between Harrogate and York, at about 07:30 GMT on Wednesday.

The driver had got onto the roof of the vehicle, a spokesperson said, and was helped to dry land by firefighters who waded through the water.

Richmond Fire Station said its crew were among "multiple resources from across North Yorkshire" sent to the incident.

The station said the water was halfway up the door of the car.

A Facebook post added: "Please do not drive through floodwater!

"It puts yourself at risk and it requires a large response from the emergency services!"

The fire service said crews from Knaresborough, Acomb, Richmond, Ripon, Selby and Colburn responded, including swift water rescue teams.

The Acomb crew was first on scene and dealt with the incident, so other crews were turned back.
