A man has been given a suspended sentence after being caught on CCTV stealing thousands of pounds from a pub in Nottingham.

Police said Stephen Walker was living above The Peacock in Clifton when a security camera captured him taking £7,650 in cash from a safe.

The 54-year-old denied burglary but was found guilty by a jury at Nottingham Crown Court on 4 February.

On Friday, Walker, of Langdown Close, Bulwell, was given a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work and fined £5,000.

PC Kerry Sansom, of Nottinghamshire Police, said "Burglary offences can cause considerable cost and inconvenience to local businesses and are also extremely upsetting for victims.

"I hope Walker takes this chance to reflect on his behaviour."
