An elderly man has been left with life-threatening injuries after he was hit by an HGV, police have said.

The 86-year-old pedestrian was taken to hospital after the crash in Greetland, Halifax, at about 11:05 GMT on Friday.

The driver of the DAF truck, a man in his 30s, had remained at the scene on Saddleworth Road, near the junction with Stainland Road, following the incident, according to police.

No arrests had been made and officers urged any witnesses, or anyone with relevant footage, to get in touch, a force spokesperson said.
