The Greens will publish their manifesto on Tuesday for an election they hope will deliver the party's first seats in the Senedd.

Controlling rents, cutting water bills and replacing council tax are among priorities the party has already announced.

The party says opinion polls show it is on course to get candidates elected to the parliament in Cardiff Bay for the first time.

Greens say they could help decide who becomes first minister if no party wins an outright majority of seats on 7 May.

'Deliver on promises'

Wales Green Party leader Anthony Slaughter, who will publish the manifesto in Port Talbot on Tuesday, has said his party's support for the next Welsh government "doesn't come cost free."

"We are there to deliver on the promises we are making to the people of Wales," he has said.

Party leader Zack Polanski has said Green MSs would negotiate with the government to control the amount of rent that tenants pay.

The Welsh government ruled out setting rent controls for the private sector in 2024, saying it lacked enough data about rents and warned the move could reduce the number of properties available.

Polanski said the Greens also wanted a replacement to council tax and would "make sure we are bringing down water bills by working towards public ownership of the water companies".

Visiting Cardiff last week, he said Wales had been "screwed over by a Westminster government over and over again".
