Disused bus stop repainted in 'error'
West Northants Lib DemsBright yellow markings have been repainted in front of a bus stop that is no longer used.
West Northamptonshire Council said the stop had been painted "in error" on Ashby Road, Braunston, and it would be redone by contractors at no extra cost to taxpayers.
Liberal Democrat councillor Rosie Humphreys said she noticed the updated markings a week ago in the village, close to Daventry and the route that had been terminated nine months ago.
She described the situation as "unacceptable".
A council spokesperson said: "This work to re-mark a stop on a former bus route was carried out in error.
"It will be remedied by our contractor at no additional expense to the taxpayer."
Humphreys said: "I've been expressing my frustration on behalf of residents, really because there's been so many instances recently of people's tyres being burst by potholes.
"This is unacceptable, so many people have had vehicle damage and there's a lack of communication on how [the council is] managing this emergency highway situation."
Jonathan Harris, the Liberal Democrat leader, said it was "wasted money" and "especially insulting when our roads have caused chaos for drivers over the past few weeks and resemble the surface of the moon".
The council said its road network was currently facing significant pressures, following a prolonged spell of wet weather combined with extended freezing conditions.
It said emergency repairs were being prioritised, while the rate of new defects was outpacing its ability to respond in the usual way.
