Woman who died after car hit tree named by police
North Yorkshire PoliceA woman who died when her car hit a tree in North Yorkshire has been named by police as Elsie Whitehead.
The 71-year-old, from Reeth, was driving a red Kia Stonic which left the B6271 close to the Streetlam turn-off, near Northallerton, shortly before 19:00 GMT on 27 January.
Her family said they were "incredibly grateful" to people who stopped at the scene to offer help.
North Yorkshire Police renewed its appeal for anyone who witnessed the crash or who has dashcam footage to get in touch.
A force spokesperson said the family had asked for privacy following her death.
In a statement, the family said they wished to thank the emergency services for their "dedication, care and compassion".
They added: "We're also incredibly grateful to the people who stopped to help when it mattered most - knowing others were there and willing to help has been a real comfort and something we will never forget.
"We have also taken great comfort from all of the support and messages of condolence received."
