Voters in the Caerphilly constituency who want to take part in the Senedd by-election on 23 October have until late on Tuesday to register to vote.

Constituents not already on the electoral register can apply online before the deadline at midnight.

Voters in the constituency will decide who the area's Member of the Senedd should be, after the death of Labour's Hefin David.

Postal requests have to be made in writing by Wednesday at 1700 BST, while requests for a proxy vote can be made no later than 1700 on the 15 October.

People aged 16 and above on the day of the election who are British, Irish or EU citizens can take part. If you are not already registered to vote, you can apply online at the Gov.uk website.

The constituency stretches from Caerphilly town to Machen in the east and Bargoed in the north - Nelson, Bedwas and Llanbradach are among the communities within its boundaries.

Those who take part in the election in person will vote on 23 October, at polling stations open between 0700 and 2200 BST. Unlike a Westminster election, voters will not require ID.

There are eight candidates for the election, they are:

  • Steve Aicheler - Welsh Liberal Democrats -
  • Anthony Cook - Gwlad
  • Gareth Hughes - Green Party
  • Gareth Potter - Welsh Conservatives
  • Llŷr Powell - Reform UK
  • Roger Quilliam - UKIP
  • Richard Tunnicliffe - Welsh Labour
  • Lindsay Whittle - Plaid Cymru
