Plans to build 187 homes in Swadlincote are set to take a step forward.

South Derbyshire District Council councillors have been asked by planning officers to approve the plans - subject to the authority negotiating an increase in the number of affordable homes in the scheme from 19 to 25.

The proposed development, brought forward by David Wilson Homes, is earmarked for land off Swadlincote Lane.

According to a council report, the plans would provide "much-needed housing" in a sustainable location.

Planning documents from the applicant said the proposed scheme would consist of a range of one to four-bed properties.

Documents added the plans would promote "healthy communities", and contain green space with a play area at the centre of the development.

A report prepared for councillors states that 36 objections to the scheme have been made, and raise concerns including the potential loss of green space and an increase in traffic.

However, it added the scheme would be subject to conditions and contributions from the developer to minimise any "perceived adverse impacts" of the proposed development.

Councillors are set to discuss the plans on 9 December at the Civic Offices in Swadlincote.
