A lorry fire has closed a main road through Rutland.

Emergency services were called to the A47, between Uppingham and Belton-in-Rutland, at about 09:00 BST on Monday, said Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.

Fire crews from Uppingham, Melton, Oakham and Corby in neighbouring Northamptonshire attended.

The fire service said the blaze was extinguished by about 12:10, but the road remained shut into the afternoon.

Fire crews said the cause of the fire was found to be "mechanical failure", and added: "Please avoid the area and plan your journey accordingly."
