A woman in her 40s died at the scene of a crash where a vehicle overturned.

A stretch of the M11 motorway in Essex was closed southbound between junction seven at Harlow and junction six for the M25 after a single vehicle collision at 00:50 GMT on Wednesday.

Essex Police said a red Audi A3 had left the road.

Police said the woman's family had been informed and were being supported by specialist officers. A man and another woman remain in hospital with serious injuries.

National Highways had warned drivers of delays of up to one hour and about four miles (6.4km) of congestion.

It said the vehicle came "to rest on its roof on the verge adjacent to the carriageway".

The road closure has now been lifted.

Essex Police has launched an investigation and has urged anyone with more information to come forward.
