Sir Lindsay to 'fight all the way' for care home

The Speaker of the House of Commons has vowed to "fight all the way" to save a care home at risk of closure near his house.

Grove House in Adlington, Chorley, is one of 10 care homes and day centres under review by Lancashire County Council as it looks to save money.

Sir Lindsay Hoyle said it was "totally unacceptable" to close Grove House and urged local authority bosses to invest in it to prevent residents from being forced out of their "final home".

Following the decision to review the sites, the council said it was "committed to delivering better outcomes for residents, whilst ensuring value for money" and urged members of the public to take part in the ongoing consultation process.

Sir Lindsay, who attended a rally earlier this month opposing the possible closure of the 47-bed site, told BBC Radio Lancashire on Wednesday: "Grove House is very important... it is part of our community.

"To try and upset families, to upset residents, the fact they may be thrown out is that really what we are about?" he asked.

Other care homes under review include Favordale home in Byron Road, Colne; Milbanke Care Home in Kirkham; Thornton House in Thornton Cleveleys; and Woodlands in Clayton-le-Moors.

The day centres are Byron View in Colne; the Derby Centre in Ormskirk; Teal Close in Thornton Cleveleys; Milbanke Day Centre in Kirkham; and Vale View in Lancaster.

A final decision will be made in February.
