No lights switch-on show but Xmas events continue

There will be no stand alone lights switch-on event in Worcester this year but festive events will continue.

The city council said the cost of holding a separate event had "risen year-on-year", with costs including a stage, sound equipment, safety and security, traffic management and medical cover. Last year's event was cancelled due to adverse weather.

Instead, the lights will be switched on by the Mayor of Worcester, Dr Matt Lamb, once they have been installed. Worcester's Christmas lights will be delivered "slightly differently" this year, the city council said.

Once the lights have been switched on Worcester will be "full of festive magic", it added.

The festivities include the four-day Worcester Christmas Victorian Fayre between 4 December and 7 December with about 150,000 people expected.
